Originally published as Mammillaria stampferi and later reduced to a form of M. longiflora. I think that the name M. longiflora fa. breviflora was at one time being considered. That would just about have summed it up: 'the long-flowered Mammillaria with short flowers'!

This specimen was grown from seed sown in 1985, but I also have some sown in 1992 which are also flowering.
