This is the name by which Charlie Glass referred to the plant. He offered A. uncinatus var. crassihamatus as an alternative, but this is an area where you can't even be sure of the genus: Steven Brack's "Mesa Garden" seed list offers it under Glandulicactus with the comment "industrial spines"!
