Plants of the Brazilian genus Arrojadoa need to be kept a little warmer in cultivation than most cacti. Certainly they can suffer damage in the cool, dark, British winter, in which this plant endures temperatures down to about 7C along with the rest of my collection.

I was particularly pleased with these short-lived, late-season flowers.

The same plant on the day before. The flowers opened in the morning, and closed again in the evening, each one lasting only a few days.
